Glitter Cat Baristas of 2023

  • Addison Mathis

    they/them

Addison's coffee career began in Tallahassee, Florida in 2017. After one coffee plant tattoo and five years of working/dreaming/brewing, they're proud to claim their title as a true specialty bean. Jokes aside, at the heart of Addison's coffee career is the belief that this industry is about people and experiences most of all. It's not just the bean juice consumed, but the connections made along the way.

When they're not training baristas and assuring quality behind bar, Addison can be found gleefully riding their bicycle around Atlanta. They have a deep affinity for the band Big Thief, contemporary memoirs, and very large bowls of ramen.

  • Lee Williams

    she/her

I am Bay Area native with Good ass energy, with an open heart, and a Wu tang album just to level it all out! I am currently a Coffee roaster Padawan slowly but surely working her way up to Jedi status!

  • Cajal Rutti

    she/her

I am a deaf woman who is an engineer in mind and an artist at heart. Contrary to popular belief, I wasn’t raised with American Sign Language but rather Cued English which is what I’d describe as a visual Morse code for phonemes.

I have been nicknamed Madame Machinist as a character in a video game that has yet to be released. I find coffee to be a perfect medium to apply science, creativity and engineering which are all I value the most. It is my preferred social lubricant to bridge the hearing and deaf communities to encourage inclusivity by educating others about the spectrum of deafness which varies wildly.

In my free time, I like taking on projects that involve some kind of a machine to repair, improve upon or use to understand. My most recent project is that I have a La Marzocco GS3 MP, also known as Lucia, which allows me to experiment with single origins with pressure profiling and I got plans for customizations.

I thrive in the world of fantasy and science fiction in any form from tv shows, books and video games when I’m not doing my projects or spending time with my husband and baby daughter.

My favorite coffee memory is when I made a successful cappuccino from home. It took me much longer than I’d like to admit but it was worth the hunt for that “godlike” shot.

  • Justin Mcmillan

    he/they

Hello, my name is Justin McMillan, and I'm from the South Bronx neighborhood of Hunts Point. It's difficult for me to pick a favorite coffee memory. But I have to admit that my best coffee moments are when my friend group get together to practice latte art, and play dnd.

  • Mel Caballero

    she/her

Hey I’m Mel, Barista and creator of Tough Love Roasters by day, 80’s karaoke host and fire dancer by night. I enjoy the circus and will sing and with you to almost every genre so.. “Let’s Dance” -David Bowie

My favorite coffee memory was the opening weekend at a brand new coffee shop in DTLA. My barista friend and I were the only experienced baristas at the time and the orders were coming in non stop. We were also working with two espresso machines next to each other. We had a moment where we kinda lost it dropped down heads under the counter (tickets still coming through) looked at each other then the pos printer wailing “ya! guey! Ya!” 😩 We laughed and got up and handled.

  • Paul Malonzo

    they/them

Hi! My name is Paul Malonzo and I am a queer non-binary artist. I care deeply about my connections with friends and even the brief interactions with folks I meet day to day. My favorite coffee memories are often when I discover a cafe for the first time. Experiencing what it's like to walk in at opening and find the physical space and customers slowly wake up. Having a black coffee tastes best in the early hours of the morning while drawing friends.

  • Phillip White

    he/him

Hi, I'm Phillip. Coffee Roaster, barista, all around coffee person extraordinaire. When I am not making coffee I am probably riding bikes and If I am not riding bikes I am probably with my bike at a coffee shop. True story. Not a memory but a weekly gathering I participate in of about 70+ cyclists at one of my favorite coffee shops in town. It's a Wednesday morning fashion show, social gathering, workout, etc... All the the coolest, nicest, fastest cyclists have coffee after riding in Griffith Park every Wednesday morning. It's incredible.

  • Mx. Suni Jade

    they/she

Hey y’all! I’m Suni Jade (They/She) & I am from Philadelphia! I am head over heels in love with coffee, my fiancè, my dogs, my friends, and Long Beach days. I’m almost always listening to music. My favorite coffee memory is going to Wawa to get their cinnamon coffee with my Grandma, Argentine.
